Crown Royal Cake

I made this cake for a birthday party. The birthday boy enjoys drinking out of a Georgia tumbler, thus the G cup. This took me roughly 14 hours total. Phew!

Busy Busy Busy

I have been so busy cake making! I had six cakes on my calendar for this week. I love being so busy and having the time to create. Posted above are pictures of a unique cake: 6 Pigs at the Beach.

Bear Bryant Cake

Here is a cake made for an anniversary party for two Bama Football fans. This cake represents the a groom's cake. Instead of buying houndstooth edible paper I decided to hand paint the pattern. I have to give a special thanks to my very pregnant sister for helping me when I went cross-eyed. I knew it would take quite a while to paint the image but I think it was worth it. Lot of love went into this one!

The Carnival Train

Okay, here is a cake that took me endless hours to create. If I were to do it again, there would definitely be a few things that I would change....such as more precisely shaping the cakes that fit inside the train boxes. The mathematics, as it were, stumped me. What can I say, the creative side of my brain is much stronger. As always, it was a learning process and I was pleased with the results considering this was the first time I had ever used so much gum paste and created tricky shapes.

Odds and Ends

I have been pretty slack about not posting on my Blog!! So here are odds and ends of work that I've been doing the last few months:

Above is a birthday cake for a Fireman. I did my best to make a replica of his helmet.

This is a "Crayola Crayon" cake. I loved working on this one. It took me a few weeks of planning and trial and error to figure out how to make the crayons. They are made Gumpaste and were formed into crayon shapes and then I literally sharpened them to get the crayon ends.

David and Julie's Wedding

Wow. Okay, so I just made it through my first wedding and groom's cake. I'm not 100% that I would have taken on something like this had it not been for the most awesome couple in the whole world. Cheers to my brother for marrying such an awesome gal!

I must say that the hardest part was the weather. It was about 90 degrees inside a barn. Having a fondant cake with buttercream icing = me freaking out. It wound up being great. I absolutely loved making the armadillo cake. The wedding cake was a huge challenge. I think the hardest part was figuring out how many layers were in each tier and how many cakes to actually bake. I also had to guess how many rose petals and how much icing and fondant I would need to make. I worked a little on it everyday. I'd say preparing 2 cakes for one event on the same day is challenging. I definitely do NOT have great time management skills but I'm managed to rock this. Enjoy the pics! The wedding cake was lemon and the armadillo was appropriately red velvet.

Baby Shower Cake

This cake was made for baby Chloe.

Fire Trucks

I really loved making the Fire Truck! It was ordered for a 2 year old's Birthday Party. The cake was a basic, simple, easy to sculpt shape. Nonetheless, it still took me plenty of time! This was the first time I used homemade fondant. It worked surprisingly well! I love using all organic products and knowing that everything is from scratch...even the fondant.
